ABC TROPICANA BANANA'S 6-A-SIDE
What a finish we had to the ABC Tropicana Banana's 6-A-Side Soccer Tournament on Tuesday night, 6th December. With P-Dub Utd making the finals with a 2-0 win over the Toffees, and Hurry Up Grandma cruising through also with a 3-1 win over STFC, leaving the two best sides in everyone's opinion to play off in the final for the $5000 prize. The play off for third and fourth was an epic battle, both sides determined to finish in third spot. STFC went a man down shortly into the first half through an ankle injury, leaving them with no reserves for 90% of the match. STFC eventually got over the line, coming out victors 2-1. In the final, Hurry Up Grandma took an early lead through a magic goal. Many thought that could be the end the game right there, but with P-Dub's determination and Grandma's fighting spirit, both teams knew it was far from over. P-Dub fought back tremendously, only Grandma's goal kepper proving the difference with some great saves. With only 4 minutes left to play, Tim Simpson landed a floating header into the back of the net for Grandma, with the ball just out of reach for P-Dub keeper Darren Perera. Winners Hurry Up Grandma with Pat Arcella (ABC Bananas) on the left, and SEG's Soccer Legend Paul Wade on the right
Unfortunately, for both teams, P-Dub keeper and captain Darren Perera landed akwardly after his attempted save, seriosuly injuring his left arm. With the ambulance on their way and knowing Darren was OK, the game continued on the spare field. With no reserves, P-Dub were forced to play with five men, with only four on the field and one in goals. But with the spirit they've shown throughout the tournament, they pulled a goal back to make it 2-1, which is how the game ended. Winners Hurry Up Grandma, with P-Dub United and injured P-Dub player Josh Sama
