CAPITAL YOUTH GAMES

"Sports Education Group (SEG) is proud to be conducting the inaugural Capital Youth Games (CYG) in conjunction with selected major sporting associations in the A.C.T. The CYG commencing in Canberra on April 16th will be a fantastic event!

Initially the CYG will incorporate Netball, Futsal, Swimming, Indoor Cricket, Rugby Union. In future years the CYG will expand to include other major sports.

All competitions will be conducted under the rules of the particular ACT sporting association and carried out at in the Lyneham Sporting Precinct in North Canberra.

If you have an interest in more than one sport, this will enable you to easily view the various sports – and there should be some great competition occurring during the fabulous week of sport. There will also be visits by Legends of the Sport to meet with competitors and get some of their CYG merchandise signed by that Legend and even get a photo with the Legend for your album!

SEG has conducted over 120 sporting events and competitions during 2005 but considers the CYG to be a very special event – and one that will be a MUST for competitors to attend in 2006 and in future years.

While we are sure competition will be intense at the CYG, we intend for all events to carry the SEG philosophy of MAXimum Fun – MAXimum Participation.

SEG has arranged various accommodation packages for team groups and families. Accommodation alternatives are detailed on our web site www.capitalyouthgames.com.au and we urge you to stay with those accommodation outlets highlighted that are supporting the CYG.

Let the Games begin!"

- Don Allan, Director SEG

WE CAN DO IT SAYS WADEY

SEG's Soccer Legend and former Socceroo captain Paul Wade had this to say about Australia's draw for the World Cup.

"What a draw for for Australia at next years World Cup. It's made up of Brazil, Japan & Croatia. There's some scary things I found out about our opponents starting with the most scariest, Brazil."

Brazil:

"They've been the holders of the World Cup a record 5 times. They're currently Copa America champions (the South American equivalent of the European Championships won by Greece 2 years ago). They won the South American World Cup qualifying group & scored the most goals in that process. They have players like Ronaldo who scored the most (10) goals in that competition. He could very well be the all time highest scorer in World Cup history during this World Cup. To top it off, they are the no.1 ranked team in the World, and we are no.49. 'Never say Never though'."

Japan:

"The finished top of their group in qualifiers. When you consider that Japan drew 2-2 in the Confederations Cup, the first game for the Socceroo's won't be easy. They are very skillful, lightening fast and can match it with some of the best. That's the reason they are ranked no.20 in the world."

Croatia:

"They qualified for the last three finals, finished 3rd at France '98. They'll be very difficult to beat after not doing to well in the last campaign. They didn't lose a game in their qualifiers this time around though. Imagine how tough that's going to be for the Socceroo's, especially if we need to beat them in the last game to get to the second round.

Australia:

"95% of the world thought we wouldn't get past Uruguay. And we did. We may be ranked no.49, but passion and spirit count for a lot on a football field, and the Socceroo's have more than enough of both. Last time we met Brazil in 1998, we beat them 1-0. Last time the Socceroo's met France we won. We beat England 3-2 only 2 years ago. We can do well at this World Cup, and I think we will. In my opinion, the quarter finals aren't beyond our reach, and any further than that and I'm sure no-one would complain."
