THE FOUR ROOMS IN MY FOOTBALL HOUSE by PAUL WADE WITH ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS TO CLAES JANSSEN

  1. THE FIRST ROOM IS THE ROOM OF CONTENTMENT

I was the Socceroo's captain. I lead the team out of the dressing room every game. I got  to toss the coin before the game started to find out which team would kick off the game. I did all the interviews on TV. I had the honour of meeting some of the best players in the world. I had played 60 games without missing one and knew I was doing all the right things both on and off the park.

     2.  THE SECOND IS THE ROOM OF DENIAL

Boy was I shocked when I was told by the coach that I wasn't playing in the next game. I was really angry about it and blamed everyone else including coaches.

     3.  THE THIRD IS THE ROOM OF CONFUSION

What was I going to do about getting back into this team? Was it the last time I was going to play for Australia? If I was going to play again where was I going to get help? What was I actually doing wrong? I started to feel sorry for myself.

     4.   THE FOURTH IS THE ROOM OF RENEWAL

After I had calmed down I decided I had two options: I could get down in the dumps and stay in that room of confusion or I could get back to basics. That would include training harder, faster and cleverer. I had to make all those passes better including accuracy, weight and timing. I had to win more headers. Tackles had to be completed every time. I also had to get back to organizing the planned team tactics. I had to go back to being the most enthusiastic player.

I did get back into the team and as a reward I played against the best player ever to play the game - Maradona.

I'd learnt such a valuable lesson.

I've never been back to the room of contentment.

Feedback from 2006-2007 Head Start Programs

"The curriculum was excellent, and the way it was taught was fantastic. The coaches were great and my I really improved a lot. Thanks VERY MUCH!" - Rory from Thornbury Head Start

"Benjamin loved it. He was inspired by the coaches, especially the last session with Paul Wade." - Vicki from Chadstone Head Start

"My son Aaron attended the Quakers Hill Head Start Program, and to be honest, we got value for money. Not only that he enjoyed going there, but he also improved a lot. The things he learnt are now transpiring into his game with his club." - Mukesh from Quakers Hill Head Start

"As a parent, I was pleased to see my son's enthusiasm for the session each week. I felt the program was run well and my son regularly commented on how much he was getting out of it." - Jill from Chadstone Head Start

"My son enjoyed the program to a great extent. The environment was positive, the group was well structured, the venue was excellent and the kit was fantastic." - Lina from Thornbury Head Start

"The curriculum covered great concepts and was varied. It was good that the lesson was outlined at the beginning of each session and repeated throughout the session. The coaches were very fair and included the quieter children in a positive way. The feedback mid-season was a great boost and detailed specific things for the children to consider." - Sylvia from Beecroft Head Start

"Excellent considering it has to accommodate kids of different ages and skill levels. The program totally exceeded expectation. Bevan & Ahil were both excellent coaches." - Peter from Eastern Suburbs Head Start

"The curriculum was good as it helped individual skills as well as team skills. Head Start really improved my football. Normally in the off-season I lose my skills and aren't as good for the start of the new season, but Head Start really helped this." - Max from Chadstone Head Start

WET WEATHER: In the event of wet weather cancellations time will be added to future sessions to ensure players receive the full value.

Wadey believes players should turn up regardless as the coaches can talk to them about their development and can assist them with their home training program.

It could be a rare opportunity for some one on one mentoring from a Socceroo Legend.
